Every School Day Counts!

As we get ready to return to school on Monday, November 4th, we will be celebrating ‘Everyday Counts’ throughout November. Each week, we encourage all students to “strive for 5,” meaning they should make a strong effort to attend school every day. Those who maintain excellent attendance will have the opportunity to win prizes and earn an attendance certificate.

The ‘Every School Day Counts’ campaign is designed to emphasize the significance of regular school attendance in achieving positive educational outcomes for children and young people. This annual initiative is organized by TUSLA, the Department of Education, and schools nationwide.

Here are some tips to help encourage your child to attend school each morning:

  1. Don’t give in! Follow through.
  2. Be organised! Get everything ready from the night before. Have
their coats and bags at the door, their lunch made and their clothes on the banisters.
  3. Treat it like a military operation in the morning!
  4. Don’t give them a choice to stay at home.
  5. Keep talking about the importance of school.
  6. Give yourself 15 minutes before the kids get up.
  7. Early to bed the night before school, especially after holidays.
  8. Come back to school after doctor/ dentist appointments.
  9. Know how many days your child has missed in school. Make sure to use the VSWare app.
