On Saturday the 17th of August during Cork Heritage Open Day. The History Club’s Ciarán Murphy was awarded a €5,000 scholarship from the Thomas Meagher Foundation. Ciarán came first place in the foundations award’s and scholarship programme which entitled him to this very prestigious prize. The Thomas Meagher Foundation promote pride in and respect for the Irish Flag and host an annual competition where they ask students to submit a project on the flag in the form of a poem, video, essay and any other form they wish. Ciarán entered a video, poem, essay, picture collage and an art piece to secure the top spot in the 2019 competition. The cheque was presented by the foundations chairman Rev. Michael Kavanagh who praised Ciarán for his hard work and his dedication.
